Experience an impressive conversation about the confluence of trauma, recovery and artistic expression during this Artist Talk on March 23 at The Grey Space in the Middle. Photographer Ahmet Polat engages with students and faculty, and Syrian artist and student Hamzaeh Sharrack shares his unique perspective. The focus is on the earthquake in Gaziantep and the conflict just 60 km away in Syria.

During the Artist Talk, photographer Ahmet Polat explores with students and faculty from Huseyin Kalyoncu University the aftershocks of the Gaziantep earthquake one year after the event. Syrian artist and student Hamzaeh Sharrack shares his unique perspective on his current hometown and looks back on the conflict just 60 km away in Syria.

The Artist Talk is part of the Roots & Soil: a poignant exhibition born from a long-term collaboration between photographer Ahmet Polat and students from Gaziantep, who share their experiences after the largest Turkish earthquake on Feb. 6, 2023.

This event was created in collaboration with Beeld & Geluid in The Hague and part of Movies That Matter. The location of this artist talk is The Grey Space in the Middle in The Hague.
