  • Location: Centrale Bibliotheek | Dok B (4de verdieping)

On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, the Feminist Library Book Club will meet accompanied by a cup of coffee and a snack, to discuss Sabrine Ingabire's book "Fates. Sign up now!

Fates tells the story of Ajali, a Rwandan-Belgian teenager about to finish school in Ghent. A child of refugees, she tries to understand the complexities of society and find her place in it. Her older brother Benjamin seems to know how to get along in the country his motherland colonized. But when he suddenly cannot leave his room in his parents' house, Ajali is confronted with what untreated pain looks like. Her own pain, too. This is a story about the deep bond between brother and sister, the search for connection to an unknown land, and love in a family struggling with the past and silence.

Sabrine Ingabire (b. 1995) is a Rwandan-Belgian journalist, writer and the editor-in-chief of Lilith Magazine. She also writes regular columns on pop culture for Dipsauce Podcast. Before that, Ingabire worked as an editor and reporter at NRC, as a columnist at De Morgen and MO* Magazine. In 2016, she published her first young adult novel Le chemin vers le bonheur.

Guided by Rosanne Schot, we will read several feminist books and engage in conversation with each other. Rosanne is a historian and her passion for stories led her to found the book club Ontspoorde Feministen. She is also a moderator and publishes opinions and essays.

Whether you are an avid reader or just beginning to explore literature, the Feminist Book Club offers a warm and welcoming environment where everyone is encouraged to make their voices heard. You can sign up through the link.
