The Future Chamber: on the importance of a long-term perspective in politics

What are the long-term effects of political choices?

Politics often focuses on the short term. After all, politicians have to prove themselves within four years. But what are the long-term effects of political choices? And what possible future scenarios can these choices lead to? The Future Chamber charts the social consequences of policy choices and questions politicians about them. Especially on issues where technology and society intersect.

The Future Chamber is a think tank of government organizations, knowledge institutions, market players and civil society. With more than 50 organizations, they form the independent outside guard. They offer insights selflessly to the House of Representatives. Together they work on a better future for the Netherlands.

On March 28, De Toekomst Kamer will be launched in Nieuwspoort with a lecture by Barbara Kathmann (Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Digital Affairs), a panel discussion on the importance of long-term thinking in politics and the installation of the Toekomst Kamer members.

Foundation for the Future of Technology (STT).

The Future Room is an initiative of STT. STT works on long-term futures studies and investigates the potential impact of technology on a variety of social issues. STT does not make predictions but describes alternative futures. The results of the explorations are presented in a variety of ways: reports, articles, documentaries and serious games.
