One Planet Talk: City of the Future

  • Date: 21 September 16:30 - 19:00
  • Location: Museon-Omniversum

Join us for the One Planet Talk on Sept. 21, 2023 at the Dome. Three urban planning leaders will speak about their wish for the City of the Future and discuss topics such as inclusive design, mobility and climate adaptation.

Lyongo Juliana wishes for a sustainable city of the future for all. He was Director Caribbean Region at OZ Architects and now has his own architectural firm in Amsterdam. He examined the level of diversity and inclusiveness of urban architecture in 2020 and concluded that we need to pay more attention to the end user, regardless of ethnicity.

Joyce Zwartkruis (researcher in green habitat, Wageningen University) desires a future-proof city. She works at the intersection of policy, science and practice on innovations and social transitions. With Museon-Omniversum she worked on a new traveling exhibition, an educational program and construction site in the museum.

Joost van der Made (director Transport Services, Capgemini Invent) wishes for a relaxed and connected city of the future. As the new creative leader of the World Design Embassy of Urban Mobility, he looks at tomorrow's challenges from a designer's perspective. He has a passion for mobility and has collaborated at NS on, among other things, the Train Interior of the Future and the vision of stations as smart hubs.

Wanted: Future Designers
This Talk is also the grand opening of the new theme period at Museon-Omniversum, called "Wanted: Future Designers". From September 2023 to February 2024 we will bring out the designer in our visitor with various activities, events and exhibition sections. Visitors can then use Minecraft activities, among others, to creatively work on the topics of climate adaptation, mobility and inclusive design.

Minecraft sneak preview

After the Talk on Sept. 21, you will get a sneak preview of the first outlines of the City of the Future in the Dome, which our Minecraft experts are building. What is it like to design and build the City of the Future yourself? What challenges are there? What fun and creative solutions do the Minecraft experts come up with? It is the start of a period in which visitors are at the drawing board themselves and get to work - digitally and physically - as future designers.

Program One Planet Talk and Minecraft sneak preview:

16:30: Reception in foyer of the Dome
17:00: Start of program in the Dome
18:00: Drinks
19:00: End
