Exhibition 125 Years City of Peace & Justice

The Hague is internationally known as the city of Peace & Justice. Today, almost 500 international organizations are based in the city. More than 20,000 people work every day to make the world a better, more just and safer place.

The reputation as the international city of Peace & Justice has its origins in the first Hague Peace Conference, which took place in the city 125 years ago. From May 18 to July 29, 1899, delegations from the most important countries in the world met in The Hague. Over a period of three months, diplomats and lawyers met to reach agreements regarding peace, arms control and the use of international arbitration. Thanks to the first Hague Peace Conference, The Hague was recognized worldwide as an important center for diplomacy and international law. A second peace conference was held in 1907. In the 125 years since, numerous international organizations, courts, tribunals, non-governmental organizations, agencies and knowledge institutes have established themselves here. As a result, The Hague has grown into a unique, international city of Peace & Justice.

This year, the municipality of The Hague, together with Just Peace, is organizing a series of events that will focus on the Hague Peace Conference, including this exhibition 125 Years City of Peace & Justice from June 24 until July 26. But there are also peace dinners, walks and visits to organizations.
